Situated on the northeast corner of Brickell Key is the Carbonell condominium tower. Seven years since its construction, Carbonell was built to be a high-end luxury condo that was developed by Swire Properties and designed by J. Scott Architecture in 2005. Swire Properties is the company that created entire plan for Brickell Key that would take 38 years and over $800 million dollars to bring to fruition.
The tower was named after famous Cuban artist and sculptor Manuel Carbonell. Born in 1918, Carbonell knew by the age of eight that he wanted to be a sculptor. In 1959, he fled Cuba and went to New York City with only $200, living initially in the YMCA and 15 years later, moved to Miami. At this point, Carbonell had already begun creating work. In the late 90’s, Carbonell created “El Centinela Del Rio” which was sculpture 21 feet in height located at Tequesta Point in Brickell Key. This was the first of many sculptures that have claimed their home in Brickell Key. Carbonell died in 2011 but he left behind a legacy through his work across the country as well and the condominium building that named after him prior to his passing away.
Measuring 410 feet in height, Carbonell has 284 units spread across 40 floors. Residents enjoy standard amenities along with racquetball and tennis courts, a state-of-the-art gym, 24-hour security, valet parking, complimentary parking for visitors, concierge, meeting rooms, party room, child's play room, pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. Perhaps one of the biggest advantages of living in this building is it exclusivity within man-made island, Brickell Key.
